Polka is not dead! Neither is punk rock! And they go together like bread and butter. Bob Dylan's polka party version of this goofy Christmas Carol is our point of departure, but I want to pump it up even more, rock it even harder, channel more polka-punk feeling, and have even more fun with it than Dylan's posse did.

This is a Christmas song in the holiday season, so don we now our gay apparel. Bonus points and extra appreciation for holiday attire and props. But only if you want to. Exuberant, giddy joie de vivre and goofy polka-punk rock attitude is strongly encouraged. This is a virtual house party, so bring your dancing shoes.

A boozy end-of-the-year celebratory feel pervades this song. A cold beer or two might help you find your polka Muse. I want this song to feel like a virtual House Party. Consider this, friends: We have *almost* survived 2020 and we are all still above ground in a year when so many others were lost to disease and other things. So let's lively up! This collab is open to all. The Drifters' 1954 R&B version of Irving Berlin's 1942 song is our point of departure for a lively but gentle little Christmas song about snowfall and nostalgia.

The original song (Bing Crosby version) won an academy award in '42 and became the best selling single of all time. It is the most frequently recorded Christmas song of all time. The spectacular commercial success of "White Christmas" is also said to have launched whole new genres of overtly nostalgic songs and of secular Christmas songs - trends in commercial pop songwriting that continue unabated to this day.

It is a testament to the strength and vibrancy of America's cultural diversity and cultural "melting pot ' ethic that the most popular Christmas song of all time was a secular one written by a Jewish -American guy. American Christmas traditions of home and hearth have broad enduring appeal that transcends any particular definition of religious faith.
